1 cup Red candy melts
1 cup Blue candy melts
1 cup Yellow candy melts
1 cup Green candy melts
½ cup Black candy melts
16 Strawberries
6 pieces of RED VINES® Black Licorice Twists
12 Toothpicks
In separate bowls, melt down the candy melts in the microwave per the directions on the package.
Dip 4 strawberries into the red candy melts, sprinkle with multi-colored sprinkles and let them set on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Repeat this process with the blue, green and yellow candy melts.
Transfer baking sheet to the refrigerator for 10 minutes.
Cut the Black Licorice Twists into ½ inch pieces. Break toothpicks in half and insert into each piece of licorice.
Cut off the stems from each strawberry.
Transfer melted black candy melts to a zip top bag and cut off a bottom corner for piping. Pipe out melted black candy melts around the base of each piece of licorice. While the black candy melts are still warm and melted insert the black licorice into the tops of the strawberries.
Using the black candy melts, pipe out a zigzag line onto a platter. Connecting the top of the strawberries to the line, place the strawberries onto the platter to form a string of holiday lights.

Our message of Peace, Love & Vines encourages kindness and sharing. We incorporate this philosophy in our everyday lives as well as in our Red Vines brand. As members of our community, we are active volunteers for a variety of causes. As candy makers, we find opportunities to share positivity along with our delicious treats. One way we try to spread joy on a daily basis is by printing encouraging messages inside every tray of Red Vines licorice twists. These inspiring notes were actually submitted by Red Vines fans. Our goal is to surprise and delight each customer with these positive thoughts as they finish their licorice.
We recently heard from someone who was moved by that little message of support and kindness. They were moved enough that they felt compelled to let us know how much it meant to them. They did not throw the empty tray away… instead, they kept it as encouragement to help them through their day. The inspirational quote they discovered in their Red Vines tray and their note to us are below:
Needless to say, we were incredibly touched by their note. Our hearts swelled to learn that our simple effort to spread a tiny bit of joy actually impacted someone who needed extra positivity in their life. We hope they realize that they’ve made a positive impact in the world by spreading kindness and joy to us.
The wonderful note we received coincided with a new social media program that we’ve recently implemented: Motivation Monday. We often see negativity online and wanted to insert a little caring and love on Facebook. Look for one of our inspirational messages each week… or post your own. While we didn’t run an ad during the big game, we had fun sharing our football inspired Red Vines candy animation with our friends on social media. Our graphic design team always enjoys the opportunity to be a little playful. They originally planned a more elaborate scene, in which opposing licorice “players” faced off against each other, with helmets the colors of the actual teams playing in the game. When our designers finally found out who the lucky teams were, it turned out that both teams were… red. Needless to say, the original concept was scrapped and the video below was born.
This isn’t the first time Red Vines licorice has had fun at a football game. While Red Vines jars are obviously the perfect accessory for any game, we happened to run across some old videos of people doing the “Red Vines Shuffle” from when we visited Pac-12 Football tailgate parties a few years ago. These gems are definitely worth a watch: vine.co/RedVinesShuffle
You never know what you’ll find when you decide to remodel.
A construction company was renovating a building in Tacoma, Washington and found an old box of LIC-RIS-ETS inside of a wall. The construction company staff reached out to us to share their story and ask about the product. American Licorice Company started producing LIC-RIS-ETS during WWII and stopped making that particular type of licorice in the mid 70’s, so the box had been preserved in that wall for a very long time. (No, there wasn’t any candy inside.)
The construction company sent us the box they discovered… and we sent them a year supply of Red Vines as a thank you.
American Licorice Company has a surprisingly long history, beginning in 1914 in Chicago. Through much of our early history, though, we only made black licorice. Our iconic red licorice twists didn’t come along until the 1950’s. Now our Red Vines candy dwarfs our black licorice offerings, of course.
